St. Joseph Center Receives Positive Response from Middle States St. Joseph Center for Special Learning has received official word of acceptance and approval of their three-year progress report from the prestigious Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. To quote from the report, "Dedicated to the philosophy 'to provide a loving and learning environment that emphasizes individuality and family values' to prepare the students...to move into adult life with a confident sense of purpose, the school (St. Joseph Center) is unique. Given the progress and achievements of the past three years it is evident that the school community acknowledges that accreditation is a call to be pro-active: it is not a static award. The school is to be congratulated on the even progression of activities and development of curriculum that complete the basic goals and collateral events of the (original) Action Plan" In summary, as stated in the final sentence of the Middle States report, the high level of quality of the school environment and program at St. Joseph Center are "a clear indication of the professional drive of the school community." St. Joseph Center feels gratified to be able to make this distinctive, valuable special education program available to the area's children with special needs, and we are profoundly humbled by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools' recognition of our efforts. Business executives across the state are taking advantage of Pennsylvania's Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program because it gives companies a way to keep their tax dollars local, and at the same time help deserving families provide the type of education they need for their child. Your tax credit donation to the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholarship Foundation of the Diocese of Allentown can provide partial need-based scholarships to deserving students attending SJC. 100% of all donations are awarded in scholarships! Catholic education is important to many parents in Schuylkill County, but it is especially important for parents of children with special needs. The safe, nurturing, Christian environment at SJC acknowledges the dignity of all students while challenging them on a daily basis to develop their talents and reach their God-given potential. Unfortunately, there are those parents who cannot afford full tuition and worry about being able to send and keep their child in the school of their choice. That is where the Eastern Pennsylvania Scholarship Foundation comes in, along with the help of area businesses like yours. Through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program, your company can apply for a 90% tax credit up to $200,000 per taxable year for a two year commitment when you make a donation to an approved scholarship organization. What a win-win situation for your company and SJC families! New SJC Adult Habilitation Program Begins! St. Joseph Center is proud to announce the opening of its Adult Habilitation Program! This state licensed program is open to individuals over the age of 21 who, due to functional level, are unable to join the workforce. Though officially begun on September 11, 2006, the program itself has been several years in the making with much planning and preparation preceding the grand opening. The program runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and will operate year round minus week-ends and specific holidays. Each individual in the program is provided daily opportunities to expand their skills in such areas as communication, socialization, self-help, recreation, and spirituality. This is done by meeting each person at their current level of functioning, and providing varied input to strive for goals as determined by the Adult Habilitation Program staff, the individual's family and caregivers, and county supports coordinator through the office of Service Access Management. The individuals also venture beyond the bright and cheery room where the program is based to participate in the many building wide happenings here at SJC. We are extremely blessed to have these beautiful adults join the ever expanding SJC family. It has been an extraordinary experience from day one, and we anticipate lots more fun to come!
