Schuylkill Headwaters Association
Working with local citizens and using revitalizing technologies, to reep the recreational benefits of our river.
On
October 2, 1999, Schuylkill Headwaters along with Schuylkill Riverkeeper
and a group of local citizens worked together on developing a streambank
buffer on a Schuylkill River's tributary located in Middleport. The volunteers
planted an array of native trees and shrubs to buffer the runoff from route
209 and to decrease the erosion of soil into the trib. The next phase of
the project is scheduled for the morning of April 1, 2000 ( All fooling aside!).
Railroad timbers will be used to create steps to Memorial field to make
public accessibilty safer and to slow the erosion of the bank. Blueberry
bushes will also be planted for the edible enoyment to passer-bys. Again,
this will all be completed by volunteers with the goal of improving the quality
of life in Schuylkill County. Stop by and join in the fun.
