years of experience teaching students at the following grade levels: Kindergarten,
Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven and Eight.

|
Religion:
The
theme is "We Worship." Fifth grade students worship in daily prayer, Lenten
sacrifice and service to others. Some service projects are monthly visits
to the residents of Rest Haven Nursing Home. Christian behavior towards
all students is expected. The Mass is studied, along with the Sacraments
and we concentrate on the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth
Commandments. The series we utilize is Loyola.
|
Spelling:
Each week we have a new word list. Extra credit words are also used.
|
Reading:
The
Houghton Mifflin Reading series is new this year. We also break out into
literature reading groups. In addition, we do projects and book reports
relating to our Reading assignments.
|
English:
The series we use is McGraw-Hill and there is a major emphasis within my class to do creative writing exercises.
|
Math:
The
Heath Mathematics series is used. There is an emphasis on fractions and
challenging word problems. A train leaves Boston going 75 mph . . .
|
Social Studies:
MacMillan/McGraw-Hill
books are used for the Social Studies curriculum. Here we concentrate on
geography skills and history from Early American civilizations to the Ratifications
of the Constitution.
Here's Our Country, City and State Game Champions (Mrs. Rohrer tries to stump the 5th graders by asking them names of capitals and other tough geography questions)
|
Science:
This part of our routine is taught by our resident mad scientist, Mr. Steven Kulich.
|
Art:
We
do alot of creative sketching, along with studying great masters such as
Picasso and Dali. We also do various art projects throughout the year.
|
Music:
We study songs connected with American History and some of the great masters such as Mozart and Beethoven.
|
Phys. Ed.:
This
is a time for us to relax our minds by taking in some fresh air and exercising
our bodies by playing games and knowing the rules of fair play.
|
Penmanship:
Definitely
a "forgotten" skill. We'll review and practive formal penmanship as needed.
Sometimes this is very necessary -- just ask any pharmacist!
|
Computer Class:
More details will be forthcoming on our computer classes.
